Conny Lösch

Conny Lösch (* 1969 in Darmstadt ) is a German translator .

In addition to biographies, texts and books by and about musicians such as Viv Albertine , Jimi Hendrix , Gail Jones , Paul McCartney , Van Morrison , Simon Reynolds , Jon Savage and Beth Ditto , she has translated numerous novels from English and American into German. She has u. a. Translated books by Ishmael Beah , Warren Ellis , Joe Ide, Gail Jones, David Keenan, Joe R. Lansdale , Elmore Leonard , William McIlvanney , Ismet Prcic, Ian Rankin , William Shaw , Annie Sprinkle , Rex Stout , Alex Wheatle and Don Winslow . One focus of her work is the translation of detective novels.

Life

Conny Lösch studied English with Klaus Reichert in Frankfurt . During her studies she translated articles in the university's institute magazines. This was followed by translations for academic publishers, etc. a. of texts by the social scientist Donna Haraway . In 1997 Conny Lösch worked as a literary editor for the daily newspaper “Junge Welt” in Berlin. In 1999 she translated as her first complete book the biographically colored novel "Notebooks of a naked youth" (Young man without clothes) by Billy Childish ; Childish created a series of woodcuts especially for this German edition.

Lösch is married to Kristof Schreuf. She has lived and worked as a freelance translator in Berlin since 2000.

  • 2019: Lynx of the Month (August) for the translation of the "Crongton" trilogy with Who needs a heart when it can be broken , The Knights of Crongton and Liccle Bit - The Little One from Crongton , together with the author Alex Wheatle
