Conrad Oertli

Conrad Oertle (born April 28, 1862 in Teufen ; † March 13, 1940 in Trogen ; resident in Teufen) was a Swiss politician and representative of the labor movement from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Conrad Oertle was a son of Daniel Oertle, Weber and Maria Magdalena Schmidhauser. In 1834 he married Johanne Nef, daughter of Johannes Nef, a farmer . He went into a second marriage in 1924 with Louise Holderegger, daughter of Johannes Holderegger, a farmer. As a 11-year-old he was already working in an embroidery factory . Later he did an apprenticeship as a shoemaker . While traveling through Switzerland, he was an actuary for various Grütlivereine . He trained with the help of the association. From 1887 to 1898 he ran a shoemaker's shop in Teufen. From 1898 to 1903 he worked as the head of advertising for the St. Galler Stadt-Anzeiger . From 1903 to 1934 he was the first representative of the workers in a cantonal office as actuary of the Ausserrhoder police department. From 1891 to 1898 he served as a community judge in Teufen and from 1907 to 1920 in Trogen. From 1910 to 1920 he was President of the Trogen Municipal Court. From 1920 to 1930 he held the office of chief judge. He worked as a correspondent for various newspapers. From 1891 to 1895 he was the first president of the Appenzell Workers' Union. In 1900 he was co-initiator and from 1900 to 1926 Vice President of the Appenzell weavers' association. From 1909 he presided over the Appenzell Workers' Party and was its managing director. In 1919 he was co-founder of the Cantonal union - cartel . From 1888 to 1903 he was a member of the consumer association Teufen. From 1920 to 1940 he was president of the Trogen- Wald - Speicher consumer association . Oertli, along with Howard Eugster and Jakob Hertz, was one of the main exponents of the labor movement in Appenzell Ausserrhoden.
