Constantino dos Santos Teixeira , also known as Tchutcho Akson (* unknown; † 1988 in Bissau , Guinea-Bissau ) was a Guinea-Bissau resistance fighter, military and politician of the PAIGC. In 1978, after the death of Francisco Mendes, Teixeira served briefly as Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau.

Life

The exact origin as well as the date of birth of Teixeira are unknown, but it can be assumed that he was born in the Portuguese colony of Guinea . In his youth, Teixeira joined the PAIGC resistance and independence movement , which fought against the Portuguese colonial power. Teixeira rose quickly within the PAIGC hierarchy. In the meantime he was Amílcar Cabral's personal bodyguard . He was one of the five highest commanders of the PAIGC troops, on September 19, 1976 he was promoted to the highest rank of the PAIGC.

After Guinea-Bissau gained independence, Teixeira was initially interior minister. After Francisco Mendes ' death in a car accident on July 7, 1978, Teixeira temporarily took over the duties of Prime Minister before João Bernardo Vieira took over on September 28, 1978 . The latter overthrew President Luís Cabral two years later and had all of Cabral's confidants, including Teixeira, arrested and placed under house arrest. Teixeira remained under house arrest on Bolama Island for seven years before he died of illness in Bissau in 1988.
