The Contargo GmbH & Co. KG is an international logistics service provider who transports between the seaports and the European hinterland in the tri-modal transport and all associated ancillary services (eg. As empty container depots and repair) is carried out. Contargo transports around 2.1 million TEU per year  in its network (24 terminals, four shipping lines and several rail connections) along the Rhine and its major tributaries up to Switzerland.

history

Contargo was founded in 2004 and bundled the activities of several companies in the field of container hinterland logistics , some of which had been active since 1976 in the combined transport of inland waterways - trucks and the operation of container terminals .

From 2004 Contargo took a stake in the NeCoSS rail operator and thus entered into the transport of containers by rail . In 2011, Contargo took over the Pöhland Group with six branches. After the takeover of the inland shipping companies Rhinecontainer BV and Transbox BV in 2012 , they will be integrated into Contargo BV . The new shipping company operates under the name Contargo Waterway Logistics. The Contargo subsidiary Transbox and United Container Transport started their joint venture Transbox United BVBA in October 2014, based in Antwerp . In May 2015, Contargo received the “Eco Performance Award” from DKV. In May 2019, the company, together with the Dutch truck manufacturer DAF, was awarded the “Green Truck Logistic Solution 2019” environmental prize for the field test with electric trucks.

  • Terminals: Contargo operates a network of hinterland terminals and transport lines along the Rhine and its major tributaries and canals up to Switzerland. The western ports of Amsterdam , Antwerp , Rotterdam and Zeebrugge are the most important interfaces for imports and exports. This is where the multimodal network of Contargo's hinterland lines comes in. But the northern ports of Hamburg , Bremen and Bremerhaven will also be integrated into the Contargo container logistics network by rail and the West French terminals Prouvy and Saint Saulve by inland waterway.
