Coop Pronto petrol station in Wangen-Brüttisellen

The Coop Mineralöl AG (market presence and Coop Pronto ), headquartered in Allschwil is a Swiss oil company and a retail company .

As a subsidiary of Coop , it operates in Switzerland more than 200 gas stations , more than 150 of them have a branded Coop Pronto -run convenience store . In addition, there are more than 50 Coop Pronto Shops without an attached petrol station, mainly near train stations and at motorway service stations. This makes the company the market leader in the Swiss convenience market. The third mainstay of the company is heating oil sales .

Coop Mineraloel employs a total of around 3,200 people in the various corporate divisions, 77 of which are assigned to Coop Mineraloel AG itself. In 2011, the company generated sales of 2.5 billion Swiss francs, of which the Coop Pronto Shops , which are run by franchisees and focus on convenience products , contributed almost a third with 900 million francs.

history

Coop Mineraloel was founded in 1972 under the name OK Coop AG as a wholly owned subsidiary of Coop. Before that, various consumer cooperatives, as Coop's predecessors, had been trading in fuels since the beginning of the 20th century .

The German subsidiary of ConocoPhillips has been involved with a minority share of 49 percent since 1988 . With a share of almost 20 percent, it is co-owner of the MiRO refinery in Karlsruhe and operates its own network of petrol stations in Germany and Austria under the name Jet . The partnership guaranteed Coop Mineraloel a direct supply.

In 1995, the Coop Pronto shop concept was geared entirely towards convenience customers and the sales network was subsequently greatly expanded.

In 2016, Coop opened the first public hydrogen filling station in Switzerland. Coop has also planned to use several hundred hydrogen-powered trucks from the end of 2019 .

Since 2019, ride- sharing points from the HitchHike ride-sharing agency have been offered at over 100 Coop Pronto shops with petrol stations.

criticism

In September 2009 the Tages-Anzeiger reported on the relationship between the franchisees and Coop. Although Coop's convenience and petrol station shops are doing well and growth is in the double-digit percentage range, an increase in bankruptcy proceedings has been observed among the tenants of these shops. In the period between July 2008 and August 2009, according to the media report , bankruptcy proceedings were opened by around 210 shops at 31 limited liability companies (GmbH) that had been founded to operate Pronto shops. One of the reasons for this accumulation was cited as the narrow scope for franchisees. In particular, several specifications contractually stipulated by Coop were criticized, including with regard to the range, inventory and payment deadlines as well as the participation of the franchisee as entrepreneurs.
