Corentin is a Franco-Belgian comic strip drawn in a realistic style by Paul Cuvelier . The comic set in the 17th century and about a Breton orphan boy was initially published in German-speaking countries under the title Florian .

action

The young Breton Corentin runs away from his violent uncle and arrives in distant India after an arduous journey. He befriends the young Indian Kim and finds two other loyal companions in Belzébuth, a gorilla, and Moloch, a tiger. He also meets the beautiful princess Sa-Skya. In the mysterious Orient they find themselves in dangerous situations several times. The third episode describes an adventure of his grandson of the same name in the Wild West.

Draftsmen and authors

The draftsman of the adventure series was Paul Cuvelier ; he had invented the character as a boy to entertain his brothers. In his drawings, Cuvelier showed influences from Paul Féval's Corentin Quimper , Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe and Rudyard Kipling's Kim . The first author was Jacques Van Melkebeke . He was followed by Greg , Jacques Acar and Jean Van Hamme . Cuvelier had already worked with Van Hamme on the erotic comic book Epoxy before he contributed two Corentin episodes.

In order to devote himself to painting, Cuvelier gave up the series in the early 1950s and did not continue it until 1958.

publication

The series appeared between 1946 and 1973 in the Belgian and from 1948 to 1973 in the French edition of Tintin . Here, the debut was Corentin with the debut of Tintin together. The publishing house Le Lombard began publishing albums in 1950 and published a complete edition in 2010.

In the German-speaking countries, Corentin published adventures under the title Florian in the youth magazine Dalla in the 1950s . In addition, CCH released the first album in 1987 under the title: Florian's adventures in monochrome printing and Salleck in 2000 the third album (title: Corentin with the Indians ) in four-color printing.

In Italy, Corentin's adventures were first published in the weekly La Vispa Teresa from 1950 , and later in the Corriere dei Piccoli magazine, among others .

reception

According to Marcel Feige , the first Corentin episodes in particular showed “that Cuvelier and his style were one of the most important employees of Tintin magazine, alongside Hergé , Jacques Martin and Edgar P. Jacobs .” For Andreas C. Knigge , the Corentin adventures belong to the after resumption of the 1958 "for the best [...] what the Belgian comics produced in the 1960s."

The French comic artist Michel Rouge named his son after the cartoon character.

Animation

In 1993, a 26-part animated series based on the comic was produced in France. Her German title was Corentin's fantastic adventure .
