Jean Van Hamme
Jean Van Hamme (* 16th January 1939 in Brussels ) is a Belgian author of adventure novels and screenplays , and one of the most successful lyricist of comics in Europe. His commercially most important series include XIII and Largo Winch .
life and work
Van Hamme has a degree in finance and has worked in marketing for several companies. He wrote his first comic book scenario with the epoxy band drawn by Paul Cuvelier in 1968. This was followed by several comic series such as the fantasy series Thorgal and the three-part comic The great power of little Schninkel , both with the Polish artist Grzegorz Rosinski . From 1976 Van Hamme devoted himself exclusively to writing.
Between 1977 and 1984 Van Hamme published six novels about the protagonist Largo Winch , who was hailed as the French James Bond by the francophone specialist press . From the 1990s, Van Hamme first adapted the novels as comics together with the Belgian draftsman Philippe Francq and then developed independent stories for the series, which became a bestseller in France with a circulation of over 350,000 copies. The stories were adapted for a television series and two films, among other things.
From 1984 Van Hamme published the comic series XIII about an unnamed elite soldier together with the Belgian illustrator William Vance . This series was also adapted for television with XIII - The Conspiracy and XIII - The Conspiracy (television series) . There is also a video game called XIII that is due to be released as a remake in November 2019.
