William Vance

William Vance , actually William Van Cutsem , (born September 8, 1935 in Anderlecht , † May 14, 2018 in Santander , Spain ) was a Belgian comic artist . He had his greatest success with the agent series XIII .

Career

After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels , he first worked in the advertising industry. He began his first steps as a comic artist as an assistant to Dino Attanasio . He got a job at Tintin , where he worked as an illustrator and drew his first short stories and series. The Bruno Brazil agent series was created with Greg .

When the Belgian women's magazine Femme d'Aujourd'hui needed a replacement illustrator for the current episode of Bob Morane in 1967 , he stepped in at short notice and finally took over the adventure series. The collaboration with Femme d'Aujourd'hui lasted until 1983 and, in addition to the individual works SOS nature and Mongwy, produced other series such as the seafaring adventure Bruce J. Hawker .

He celebrated his greatest success with the agent series XIII , which he realized together with Jean Van Hamme . His most important collaborators included his wife Petra as a colorist, his brother-in-law Felicísimo Coria and René Follet . He lived in Spain and retired in 2010 when the first signs of Parkinson's disease began to show. He died in Santander in May 2018 .
