Corinne Hofman
Corinne Lisette Hofman (born July 10, 1959 in Wassenaar ) is a Dutch archaeologist who specializes in the archeology of the Caribbean .
Hofman obtained her diploma in pre-Columbian archeology at the University of Leiden in 1987 and received her doctorate there in 1993 with a thesis on pre-Columbian Caribbean archeology (title of the dissertation: In Search of the Native Population of pre-Columbian Saba (400-1450 AD) ). She then taught in Leiden, where she became Professor of Caribbean Archeology in 2007. In 2013 she became dean of the Faculty of Archeology in Leiden. She has also been an affiliate professor at the Museum of Natural History of the Department of Natural History at the University of Florida in Gainesville and at the Museo del Hombre Dominicano in Santo Domingo since 2007 .
For her doctoral thesis she excavated in Saba and later partly with Menno Hoogeland on many islands of the Caribbean such as St. Lucia , Sint Eustatius , St. Martin (island) , Antigua (Lesser Antilles) , Guadeloupe , Martinique , St. Vincent , and Curaçao the Dominican Republic .
In 2014 she received the Spinoza Prize . In 2015 she became a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences , 2016 the Academia Europaea and 2018 the British Academy .
