Cornel Fugaru

Cornel Fugaru (* 2. December 1940 in Bucharest , † 13 July 2011 ) was a Romanian singer , musician , songwriter and composer of popular music .

Life

Fugaru reached first recognition as a singer and frontman founded in 1964 rock music - band Sincron . Until its dissolution in 1978, the group was an accompanying band of singers such as Anda Călugăreanu, Pompilia Stoian, Margareta Pâslaru and Corina Chiriac.

In the mid- 1960s he appeared as an interpreter with songs such as "Brezaia", "Cici", "Cei 4 M" and "Oacă şi Boacă" in films such as Opt minute de vis (1967) directed by Mihai Constantinescu, Opt exerciţii de 625 de linii (1967) and Împuşcături pe portativ (1967) by director Cezar Grigoriu. He also toured as a solo artist and was a member of the jury in various singing competitions. In 1971 he worked as a musician on the record Romanian Guitars published by VEB Deutsche Schallplatten Berlin .

Fugaru also adapted numerous melodies from Romanian folk music such as "Ducea rufele la râu", "Pe lângă plopii fără soţ", "Alunelul", "Jocul fetelor", "Sârba muntenească" and "Hăulita de la Gorj". His most famous compositions include "Dau viaţa mea pentru o iubire", "Nu sunt sclavul tău" and "Eu nu mai sunt cel de ieri", where he often worked with his wife Mirela Voiculescu Fugaru.

For the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 in Oslo he composed the song "Rugă pentru pacea lumii" for the singer Monica Anghel, which was written by his wife, but in the qualifying round it was the last of 29 participants with only 11 points, and thus before the main round retired. Because of this result, Romania decided not to participate in the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest .

Fugaru won numerous prizes at other music festivals such as 1968 in Sofia , 1978 also in Poznan , 1983 and 1986 Mamaia and 1997 and 1998 in Australia . In addition, he was awarded the Prize of the Union of Romanian Composers (Uniunii Compozitorilor din România) three times in 1988, 1990 and 1995.
