Cornelia "Conny" Giese (born January 4, 1959 in Berlin ; † February 19, 2000 ) was a German jazz singer and composer who was part of the Viennese scene.

Live and act

Giese, who had lived in Vienna since she was ten, received training at the jazz department of the Bruckner Conservatory . In the mid-1990s she sang in the improvisation ensemble Voces spontane , which was partly expanded to include the bassists Achim Tang and Johannes Strasser. She also performed with the Vienna Art Orchestra , around 1997 at the Saalfelden Jazz Festival , and with the NDR Big Band . In 1998 she released her first album with her permanent trio and guests, some of the songs of which were written by herself. She taught jazz singing at the Franz Schubert Conservatory in Vienna .

On the occasion of a memorial concert for Giese, the idea arose to set up a social aid fund from the Austrian Music Office for freelance jazz musicians, which was named after the singer. Posthumously in 2001 Giese's partner Johannes Strasser produced the CD Cornelia Giese - Lembranca , a live recording of the artist with the Fritz Pauer Trio from the Radiokulturhaus in Vienna on February 27, 1999. Her compositions will continue to be performed internationally. Cornelia-Giese-Platz in Vienna- Penzing has been named after her since 2007 .
