Cornelius War

Cornelius Krieg (born September 13, 1838 in Weisenbach , † January 24, 1911 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German Catholic theologian and professor of pastoral theology and education at the University of Freiburg .

Life

Cornelius Krieg attended the Rastatt grammar school and studied Catholic theology and classical philology at the universities in Freiburg im Breisgau and Bonn from 1861 to 1865 . Cornelius Krieg was ordained a priest on August 1, 1866. During his time in pastoral care he devoted himself to the study of philosophical and philological sciences. From 1870 he was first as a teacher, from 1872 to 1874 as director at the Archbishop's College in Breisach .

1876 war with the dissertation De servitute ex jure gentium in Heidelberg for Dr. phil. PhD, 1880 in Freiburg with the dissertation The Monotheism of Revelation and Paganism. Study of the history of religion. After H. Formby to Dr. theol. In the same year he completed his habilitation at the theological faculty of the University of Freiburg on the subject of "Epistemology of St. Chrysostom". He was also accepted as an honorary member of the KDStV Hercynia Freiburg im Breisgau in 1880 .

In 1883, Krieg took over the teaching load for pastoral theology and pedagogy. In 1884 he was appointed associate professor and in 1888 full professor at the University of Freiburg. From 1894 to 1906 he also taught the subject "Introduction to Theological Science".

In 1896 Cornelius Krieg was Vice-Rector of the University of Freiburg. In 1898 he was appointed ecclesiastical councilor and in 1902 he was appointed papal house prelate .

From 1885 to 1893 he was active as editor of the “Literarisches Rundschau”, from 1906 as chairman of the Freiburg Church History Association and from 1899 to 1910 as director of the Vincentius Association and the Catholic Study Association. He was also an honorary member of the Catholic Student Union Unitas Freiburg.

As a man of a practical-theological, especially religious-educational-catechetical transitional period, Cornelius Krieg can today be regarded as a pioneer of modern religious education and a pioneer of a dialogue between theology and human sciences.
