Costus stenophyllus is a species ofthe Costaceae family . It is found exclusively in Costa Rica.
features
Costus stenophyllus is an herbaceous plant and reaches a height of up to 4 meters, there is no hair . The leaf sheaths are initially gray-green, later white with a red upper edge. The leaves are linear, up to 2.5 centimeters wide. The ligule are blunt.
The cone-like, egg-shaped inflorescences are 9 to 14 centimeters long and have a diameter of 3.5 to 4.5 centimeters. The bracts are red.
The crown is hairless, the tubular labellum yellow.
distribution
Costus stenophyllus is endemic to the lowlands of the southern Pacific Ocean in Costa Rica.
Systematics
The species was first described in 1952 by Paul Carpenter Standley and Louis Otho Williams .
