The Coubertinplatz is the central square in Munich's Olympic Park in the district at the giant field .

The site is located about four kilometers north of the historic core of Munich, between the Olympic Hall , the Olympic Stadium of the Olympic Swimming Pool and the Olympic Lake , west of the neighboring Willi Daume place . There is free WiFi from Stadtwerke München on the square.

history

In the early 19th century, the military swimming school on the Nymphenburg Canal was located on the site of today's Coubertinplatz . The area was then called Milbertshofener Feld .

In the early 1970s, Coubertinplatz was rededicated as the central location of the Olympic Park and renamed in 1971 after Baron Pierre de Coubertin . Today it is under the file number E-1-62-000-70 under ensemble protection . Until its restructuring in November 2007, the Carillon in Munich's Olympiapark was also located on Coubertinplatz .

Events

Events with up to one million visitors a year take place at Coubertinplatz. These include the Impark Summer Festival , Munich Mash , the SattelFest , the Munich Midsummer Night's Dream and other concerts. In addition, Coubertinplatz is regularly the starting point of numerous running and sporting events such as the Munich Marathon , the Wings for Life World Run Munich , the Spartan Race Munich , the Nikolauslauf, the Munich winter run series, the New Year’s Eve run, the 24STD.LAUF, the Munich company run , the B2RUN German company running championship or the Munich outdoor sports festival . The cinema at the Olympiasee is also located on the square .
