Covas is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Lousada . 726 inhabitants live in it (as of June 30, 2011).

history

The current place was probably created during the repopulation during the Reconquista . In the royal surveys of 1258 Covas was already run as a separate municipality.

Culture and sights

The single-nave parish church Igreja Paroquial de Covas ( also Igreja de São João Evangelista , after its patron saint : Church of John the Evangelist) dates from the 17th century.

Other monuments in the municipality are the pilgrimage chapel Santuário da Capela da Senhora do Amparo , and the chapel Capela de Nossa Senhora do Alívio (English: Chapel of Our Lady of Relief), with the adjoining cemetery.
