Cristóvão de Castro Barcelos

Cristóvão de Castro Barcelos (born June 25, 1883 in Campos dos Goytacazes , Rio de Janeiro , † February 1946 in Rio de Janeiro ) was a Brazilian officer, last between 1944 and his death in 1946 in the rank of Major General Chief of the Army General Staff.

Life

Barcelos completed an officer training in the army ( Exército Brasileiro ) of the armed forces (Forças Armadas do Brasil) and subsequently found various uses as an officer and staff officer. After being promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 20, 1930, he became the commandant of the Army Staff School in 1931 and was promoted to colonel on April 9, 1931 , and to brigadier general on September 22, 1932 . He was between January 14, 1938 and June 30, 1939 commander of the 7th Military Region (7.ª Região Militar) and was promoted to major general on June 24, 1938 in this assignment . After he was commander of the 4th Military Region (4th Região Militar) between 1939 and 1942 , he initially served as Inspector General of the 3rd Group of Military Regions in 1942 and later in 1942 as head of the Brazilian delegation in the Joint Brazilian-US Defense Committee.

Most recently, Major General Barcelos was a member of the Army Promotion Committee from 1943 to 1945 and, as the successor to Major General Maurício José Cardoso, from December 15, 1944 until his death in February 1946, Chief of the Army General Staff.
