Cristian Rosales

Cristian Rosales (born September 11, 1978 in San José , † November 4, 2011 in El Pinar ) was a Uruguayan athlete .

Career

The 1.75 meter tall Rosales from San José was a soldier and belonged to the Club Social y Deportivo Andresito del Ejército . He was active in the running competitions on the medium and long distances. At the Junior South American Championships in San Carlos in 1997 , he won the title both over 1,500 meters and over 5,000 meters. In that year he was also the Pan American junior runner-up in Cuba over 5,000 meters . He was part of the Uruguayan squad at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg . There he finished 7th in the 1500 meter run . In 2001 he won the 1,500 meter title at the Uruguayan Championships. In the course of his career, he secured several Uruguayan championship titles between 1994 and 2006, including the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter distances. At the Ibero-American Championships in Buenos Aires in 2003 , he was 9th in the half marathon. He was also part of the team at the 2005 World Cross Country Championships in Saint-Galmier . However, he did not start at the race there. In 2010 he won the Nike Run . In July 2011 he competed in the military world games over 1,500 meters.

Today (as of June 15, 2015) Rosales still holds the Uruguayan U-20 national records on the 1,500-meter, 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter routes. These records during his junior years also remained his personal career bests.

Rosales shot himself in El Pinar on the night of November 4, 2011 .
