Cristiana Muscardini (born November 6, 1948 in Cannobio ) is an Italian politician and was a member of the European Parliament for various right-wing parties from 1989 to 2014 .

Life and politics

After studying philosophy , Muscardini worked as a journalist and publicist . In 1971 she became the first management positions in Fronte universitario di azione nazionale (FUAN), the university organization of neo-fascist party Movimento Sociale Italiano (MSI), the year after and in the party itself. In 1980, she was in the City Council of Milan chosen which they until 1990 belonged to; In 1991 she was a member of the Varese City Council . From 1983 to 1987 she was also a member of the Camera dei deputati , the lower house of the Italian parliament.

In the European elections in 1989 Muscardini was elected to the European Parliament , to which she has belonged ever since. With the reorganization of MSI under Gianfranco Fini , it belonged to Alleanza Nazionale (AN) from 1995 . Here she was also a member of the party executive and responsible for coordinating European policy. After the European elections in 1999 , she was deputy chairman of the Group Union for Europe of the Nations (UEN), in which was the AN member; since 2001 she was also general secretary of the European party Alliance for a Europe of Nations (AEN), to which the member parties of the UEN belonged. From 2002 to 2003 she was a member of the European Convention which drafted the EU Constitutional Treaty. After the European elections in 2004 she took over the chairmanship of the UEN group together with Brian Crowley and also became vice-chairman of the committee on international trade . In 2005/06 she was the AN's regional coordinator in Lombardy .

In 2009, the AN went into the newly founded party Popolo della Libertà (PdL), which Muscardini also joined. Within the PdL, Muscardini was close to the current under Gianfranco Fini , which distanced itself from the main current of the party under Silvio Berlusconi . From the 2009 European elections until October 14, 2012, she was a member of the European People's Party in the European Parliament , of which the PdL was a member. She continued to serve as Vice-Chair of the Committee on International Trade . From February 7, 2011 to October 22, 2012, she was a member of the Futuro e Libertà per l'Italia party . From October 15, 2012, she was a member of the Group of European Conservatives and Reformists . In October 2012 she founded her party Conservatori e Social Riformatori . From July 2013 she was a member of the board of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group.

Awards

Muscardini is Commander of the Knightly Order of St. Mauritius and Lazarus . In 2005 she received the gold medal from the Luxembourg “ Mérite Européen ” foundation . She has also received various other awards, including literary prizes such as the Adelaide Ristori Prize and the Ciclope d'argento.
