Cristina Maria Alves da Câmara (* 4. December 1967 in a village of the province of Tete in Mozambique ) is a Portuguese actress and a former model .

Life

Cristina Câmara was born in what was then the Portuguese overseas possession of Mozambique. In the course of decolonization , she returned with her grandparents to their home town of Figueiró dos Vinhos in 1975 . She then moved to Parede , where she graduated from high school . She also took a modeling course. As a result, she became an increasingly popular model for fashion shows, photography and advertising. She was also in demand internationally, and worked a. a. in Spain, Germany, Greece, Australia and Taiwan, and became the main model of a Dior catalog in Japan. She has also appeared on the covers of a number of fashion magazines, including Cosmopolitan and Harper's Bazaar .

Patrícia Vasconcelos , the daughter of the director António-Pedro Vasconcelos , was entrusted with the casting for the film Tentação (Eng .: temptation) in 1996 and persuaded her to apply as well. Director Joaquim Leitão cast her in the female lead alongside Joaquim de Almeida , who plays a committed pastor who takes over a small congregation in Catholic northern Portugal and has an affair there with an excluded young woman in the village, played by Cristina Câmara. The film with music by the popular band Xutos & Pontapés was a great success. The majority of the critics also received the film benevolently, and Câmara's voice and expression were praised, along with her attractive appearance.

In the following films she was given leading roles again, for example in Ruy Guerra's critical business thriller Portugal SA (German: Portugal AG), but none of the screenplays made it possible for her to play a role as expressive as in her debut.

Most recently, she reached a wide television audience with her role as the seductive Xana in the Portuguese telenovela Dei-te Quase Tudo (Eng: I gave you almost everything).

Cristina Câmara has lived with the 14-year-old Portuguese film producer Tino Navarro since 1997 , in whose successful 1997 production Tentação she played the lead role.
