Crystal City is a city in the US state of Texas in Zavala County , of which it is the district capital. It has about 7200 inhabitants (as of 2000 census) on an area of ​​9.4 km 2 .

Crystal City calls itself the "world capital of spinach".

Internment of possibly "hostile aliens"

After Germany declared war in December 1941, z. B. Americans of German origin and immigrants ( enemy aliens ) interned here by the US Department of Justice during World War II . The “Crystal City” camp had different sections for the different nationalities of origin. As a way of avoiding internment, there was a return to Germany by means of a Norwegian ship until the end of the war .
