Cuauhtémoc "Temo" Blanco Bravo (born January 17, 1973 in Mexico City ) is a former Mexican football player . In 2015 he finally ended his career after several announcements, where he is considered one of the best Mexican players of all time. From January 2016 he was the representative of the regional Partido Socialdemócrata mayor of Cuernavaca , the capital of the state of Morelos . He has been governor of the state of Morelos since October 2018.

Blanco made his debut in the Mexican premier league at the age of 19, where he first played for Club América . He then spent one season with Necaxa (1997-1998) before moving back to Club América. In 2000 he moved to Real Valladolid in Spain for 18 months , but did not make the breakthrough. He then returned to Club America for two years (2002-2004) and then played a year with CD Veracruz . In 2005 he moved again to his hometown club, Club America, where he won his first championship title in May 2005 with an overall victory of 7: 4 (1: 1, 6: 3) over UAG Tecos .
In 2007 Blanco moved to the American professional league Major League Soccer for Chicago Fire . 5,000 fans attended the presentation of his person in Toyota Park. This change was only made possible by the newly created Designated Player Rule. After the 2008 season he gave a brief stint in the Primera División de México to help Santos Laguna defend his title. However, this project failed in the semi-finals of the playoffs of Apertura 2008.
National team
Blanco played in three world championships for Mexico ; in France in 1998 , in Korea / Japan in 2002 and in South Africa in 2010 . He scored three goals. Blanco was also in the Mexican squad for the 1999 Confederations Cup when Mexico beat Brazil 4-3 in the final . Blanco was the top scorer in this tournament with six goals.
During qualifying for the 2002 World Cup , Blanco suffered a serious knee injury, which ruined his plans for another stop in Europe. While Los Blancos were injured, the Mexican side struggled to qualify. Only after his return was Mexico able to win games again and make it clear that it would participate in the World Cup finals.
After falling out of favor with the then Mexican national coach Ricardo La Volpe, he was not nominated for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, although he was voted Mexico's Footballer of the Year for the fourth time in the same year.
But he returned to the national team and should still play his 100th international match . After the game against Canada on September 10, 2008 (1: 2), he ended his career in the national team.
In order to secure Mexico's qualification for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Blanco returned to the "Tri" and scored the winning goal in the 1-0 win against Honduras on September 9, 2009 with a penalty.
With his penalty penalty in the preliminary round match against France at the World Cup on June 17, 2010, Blanco rose to become the third-oldest goal scorer in World Cup history at 37 years and 151 days. Blanco was also the oldest field player in the tournament.
On May 28, 2014, four years after his last appearance at the World Cup, he made his farewell game in the national team in a 3-0 win over Israel.

Trivia
Blanco is the namesake of a trick. In Cuauhtemiña , the ball is clamped between the feet in order to jump over an opponent who is straddling or through between two opponents standing in the way. The world public saw this trick for the first time at the 1998 World Cup against South Korea . Another trick often used by Blanco was stopping, forwarding or flanking the ball with his back.
