Cult is an American mystery series broadcast by The CW and has a season of 13 episodes. The main roles are played by Matthew Davis and Jessica Lucas . The series revolves around a production assistant and blogger who work together to uncover mysterious crimes. It was first broadcast on February 19, 2013 following Hart of Dixie .

The series takes place on two levels. One tells the mysterious crimes that Skye and Jeff are investigating, and the other tells the plot of the fictional series Cult in the series.
Nervous ex-junkie Nate believes the cult TV show's fanatical following are recreating the show's murders for real. When Nate suddenly disappears without a trace under mysterious circumstances, his brother Jeff Dean Sefton goes in search of him, because he feels guilty for not believing Nate. During his research he meets the attractive, curious production assistant for the series Skye Yarrow. Skye succeeds in restoring the contents of Nate's phone within a few seconds. This tells them that Nate was correct with his assumption and that a fanatical fan base is re-enacting the murders of the serial villain Billy Grimm. But even Jeff will come into the line of fire of the following after he finds a CD from Nate that contains explosive information. Jeff and Skyle realize that they cannot trust anyone because even the investigating police officer Sakelik is a follower of the sect.
The fictional series Cult is about the cult leader Billy Grimm, who wants to recapture his former lover and follower Kelly Collins. But Kelly escaped the sect and now works as a police officer. In the course of her investigation, she becomes involved again in the group's activities. Actors Roger Reeves, who plays Billy Grimm, and Marti Gerritsen, who plays Kelly Collins, have to come to terms with the series' popularity and feel the impact on their real lives.

Cult was originally developed for the television station The WB in 2006 . However, after The WB merged with UPN to form The CW , the project with Matthew Bomer as the lead actor on The CW fell through. Six years later, the station finally ordered a revised version of the pilot episode . Rockne S. O'Bannon is executive producer alongside Josh Schwartz , Stephanie Savage and Len Goldstein. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television among others . The main role of Skye Yarrow went to Jessica Lucas in February 2012 . Other central leading roles went to Alona Tal and Robert Knepper . The main male role was cast on March 13, 2012 with Matthew Davis .
In May 2012, The CW ordered the series for the 2012-2013 television season. After the series was postponed to Friday after two broadcast episodes and was also unable to convince there, the broadcaster announced the discontinuation of the series in early April 2013.

The series opened on The CW on February 19, 2013 on the slot of the previously failed series Emily Owens . The first episode already had a miserable audience rating of 0.86 million viewers, before it fell even further in the second episode. In response, the broadcaster moved the series from Tuesday to Friday before removing it completely from the program schedule in early April 2013. The remaining six episodes were broadcast in double episodes from June 28 to July 12, 2013.
