Extraction and presentation
Methyl cyanoacetate (similar to ethyl cyanoacetate ) can be prepared from cyanoacetic acid and trimethyloxonium fluoroborate.
properties
Methyl cyanoacetate is a flammable, hardly inflammable, light and air sensitive, colorless and odorless liquid that is soluble in water.
use
Methyl cyanoacetate is an intermediate product in the organic synthesis of pharmaceuticals ( e.g. cyclobarbital ) and some biologically active compounds in agriculture. The compound can also be used in the synthesis of various 1,2,5-tricarbonyl compounds. It is also used as a UV absorber or stabilizer for drugs.
