description

Cylindropuntia echinocarpa grows shrubby or tree-shaped, is richly branched and reaches heights of 0.5 to 2 meters. On the green to pale gray-green, cylindrical, 3 to 7.5 centimeters (often up to 12 cm) long and 1 to 2.5 cm in diameter measured drive portions are clearly visible bump. Only the outermost sections of the shoot fall off slightly. The elliptical white or yellow areoles turn gray and have conspicuous, yellow glochids 3 to 4 millimeters long . The six to 22 spines are present on almost all areoles. They are particularly strong on the areoles of the shoot section tips. The thorns interlock and hide the shoots. They are erect to spread, white to brown, sometimes darker, and are 2.5 to 5 inches long. Bristle-like thorns are also often present. The sheaths of the thorns are white at their base and golden yellow above.

The light green to yellowish green flowers have lengths of 2 to 2.3 centimeters. The tan-colored, inverted conical to spherical fruits are dry and thorny. They are 1.3 to 2.3 inches long and 1.1 to 2 inches in diameter.
