Cynthia Gouw

Cynthia Gouw (* 30th May 1963 in Contra Costa County , California as Cynthia Gie-Kiok Gouw ) is an American news anchor , journalist , presenter , model and former actress .

Life

Gouw began her career as a model and was named Miss Chinatown Los Angeles in 1983 and Miss Chinatown USA in 1984. She studied Political Science and International Relations at the University of California, Los Angeles, and graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts . In 1991 she graduated from the Graduate School of Law with a Juris Doctor .

She worked as a newscaster and journalist for KXTV-TV Channel 10 ( ABC ) in Sacramento , KPIX-TV Channel 5 ( CBS ) in San Francisco and KDFW-TV Channel 4 ( FOX ) in Dallas . For her reporting on the topics of “street gangs”, “the effects of globalization and relations between Asia and America” and “immigration from Latin America”, she received three Emmy awards. In Philadelphia , she hosted and produced the Asian Outlook program for WPPT , a half-hour talk show that deals with social, legal and political issues facing Asians and Asian Americans. She also presented cosmetic products on television and appeared on several covers of American women's magazines.

As an actress, she played the Romulan ambassador Caithlin Dar in William Shatner's science fiction film Star Trek V: On the Edge of the Universe in 1989 and in addition to a few other roles in films in the television series Freddy's Nightmares: A Nightmare on Elm Street - The Series (1988) , Matlock (1989) and China Beach (1991).

She has been married since October 2004.
