Cyril J. Mockridge

Cyril John Mockridge (born August 6, 1896 in London , † January 18, 1979 in Honolulu , Hawaii ) was a British-American film music composer .

Life

Mockridge was initially a pianist and received his piano training at the Royal Academy of Music in his hometown of London. In 1922 he emigrated to the USA , as he expected greater professional opportunities here. With the start of the sound film , he received his first offers from the film industry from 1931. He worked for 20th Century Fox as an arranger and later also as a composer . From 1959 worked mainly for television . Mockridge received an Oscar nomination for the musical adaptation of the musical Guys and Dolls . He was considered an experienced craftsman who wrote suitable songs for comedies as well as dramatic background music for westerns or dramas.
