occupation

Demons 2 , also Dance of the Demons (original title: Dèmoni ) is an Italian horror film by director Lamberto Bava from 1985 and, contrary to the German distribution title, the first part of a small film series. The film was produced by Dario Argento , who was also involved in the script; his young daughter Fiore also played a small supporting role in the film.

The genre film, which was only exploited on video, did not find its way into German cinemas, unlike its sequel Demons .

action

A special preview for an ominous horror film will take place in the newly opened Metropol cinema palace in Berlin. Due to an effective advertising campaign, the film showing is well attended, which is partly due to the large number of free tickets distributed beforehand. A striking decoration in the foyer of the building attracts a great deal of attention among onlookers. It is a red motorcycle with a samurai sword and a silver mask that the prostitute Rosemarie, who is accompanied by two friends, quickly puts on. Rosemarie injured herself slightly when weaning. The many premiere guests of the performance also include the two schoolgirls Cheryl and Kathi, a blind man with his much younger wife, a young couple and the two young men George and Ken, who take the places next to Cheryl and Kathi.

In the film, four young people discover the grave of Nostradamus , which, in addition to a book, also contains a demonic mask on which a boy cuts himself and, according to a prophecy, turns into a bloodthirsty demon who cruelly kills all his companions. At the same time as the events on the screen, Rosemary's wound begins to bleed again and she goes to the ladies' room, where the one infected by the cut on the mask also turns into a demon. From then on, she attacks the audience in search of victims and is the first to injure her female companion, who then mutates into a bloodthirsty creature and in turn chases after other premiere guests.

The number of these monsters increases steadily, while the remaining survivors try to escape from the cinema, but fail at the barricaded exits. There is therefore no way for them to escape. Sabotage of the projection equipment proves to be unsuccessful, since despite the abrupt termination of the broadcast, the attacks continue with undiminished brutality and cold bloodedness. The hunted prisoners barricade themselves seeking protection in a wing of the cinema, but with the appearance of a group of four drugged punks whom they believe to be their rescuers, they loosen their safe barricade with fatal consequences. A real bloodbath ensues.

Ultimately, only Cheryl and George survive, who use the samurai sword and motorcycle displayed in the entrance area and thus successfully evade the attacks of the monsters. George slaughters a large number of beings until they face a demon with a silver mask in a duel, which they finally defeat in a joint effort. They had previously managed to escape from the movie theater. At the end of the film, the couple get into an apocalyptic end-time scenario, the entire city has already been infiltrated by the demons. In this situation, they are found by a father with his two trigger-happy children who takes them along on his way west towards the rural areas. On that same trip, the infected Cheryl is transformed into a monster, which is unceremoniously shot by the rescuer's small, underage son. George then continues his journey with the trio.

Berlin locations

The New Playhouse

The Neue Schauspielhaus on Nollendorfplatz was used for the exterior shots of the Metropol cinema . At the time of shooting, the building - actually known as Kino Metropol until 1977 - had not been a cinema for some time, but was operated as a discotheque. It is therefore very unlikely that the interior photos were also taken here.

The film begins with a subway ride through Kreuzberg that ends at the Heidelberger Platz subway station . A later scene takes place at the Wittenbergplatz underground station . You can also see some impressions of the nightlife on Kurfürstendamm .

publication

On April 30, 2012 Arrow Films released the film on Blu-ray together with the sequel Demons and the comic book "Demons 3" by Stefan Hutchinson. He is also part of the Grimm Up North on March 29, 2012 in Manchester together with demons .

The film is only available in an abridged version in Germany because it was confiscated there nationwide.

Reviews

"Announced by the video provider as a sequel to the film" Demons ", this is actually the first of the two horror films with this title. The bizarre story strives to confront different levels of "reality", which the film, which relies on some disgusting effects, only succeeds for a short time. "
