The Düren bathing lake is located in the area of the city of Düren between the districts of Gürzenich , Derichsweiler and Mariaweiler in North Rhine-Westphalia .
In earlier times the area was known as the Düren open-cast mine , because the bathing lake is the remaining hole filled with gravel from an open-cast lignite mine , the Düren open-cast mine , in which lignite was mined from May 27, 1941 to February 28, 1956 (interrupted by the Second World War ) .
The lake is a maximum of 11 m deep and has a water surface of 350,000 m². 35,000 m² have been developed as an outdoor pool with bathing bridges and restaurants . The bath has a capacity of 10,000 visitors.
The rest of the lake is available to anglers and divers . In the lake you can find rudd , eel , perch and now and then pike , pikeperch and catfish . In addition, there are carp of all kinds as well as roach, trout and various white fish species.
The bathing lake is also known as the Düren Adria or Gürzenich Lake . It is also the location for a wide variety of sporting and cultural events such as DJ events, sporting events, concerts, themed parties, etc.
Barbecue boats are available at the lake. On June 16, 2014, the Düren service company inaugurated a two-masted water ski facility. The 164 m long route cost 100,000 euros.
Other lakes in the vicinity are the Echtzer See , the Lucherberger See and the Blausteinsee .
