DAM ( acronym for Destruction and Mayhem ) is an English thrash metal band from Morecambe that was formed between 1986 and 1988 and split up in 1992.

history

The band was formed in 1986, 1987 or 1988 by guitarist John Bury and his brother and drummer Phil. In their biography, the band gives the demo recording Human Wreckage as their first release , while the cast details are Destruction & Mayhem , which was recorded around 1987 with bassist and singer Stuart Capstick and guitarist Tony Martin. After the release, the band reached a contract with Noise Records . The line-up at that time consisted of singer Jason McLoughlin, guitarists Elly and John Bury, bassist Andy Elliot and drummer Phil Bury. After signing the contract, the band went into the studio to record their debut album, which was released in 1989 under the name Human Wreckage . This gave the band the opportunity to play as the first western band in Berlin after the fall of the Berlin Wall . The publication was produced in Berlin by Harris Johns ( Sodom , Tankard , Coroner ). Various tours followed to promote the album, so that the band played together with groups such as Toranaga , Dark Angel , Nuclear Assault , Acid Reign , Xentrix , Re-Animator , Celtic Frost and Candlemass . In 1990 guitarist Elly left and was replaced by Dave Pugh. This was followed by the album Inside Out in 1991 . After the release, Pugh left the band to join Skyclad . Then guitarist Dave Harrison joined the band, who could already be heard on the Human Wreckage demo . The group changed their name to Dam and released the demo Kaleidoscope in 1992 , before the band broke up that year.

style

In the early days of DAM, the influences were in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal , the early works of Metallica and Iron Maiden . Content influences are space travel, the solar system, the universe, Marvel Comics and science fiction . On their first album Human Wreckage , the band played classic, simply structured American-style Thrash Metal, while the songs on Inside Out became far more complex.
