The German organization of non-commercial supporters of pure Donaldism ( DONALD for short ) is a donaldist association of fans of the Duck comic family by the American cartoonist Carl Barks . The association was founded in 1977 in Hamburg by Hans von Storch and has around 1000 members worldwide, mostly from German-speaking countries (as of December 2015).

Content

The DONALD deals with the research of the Duck family and the Duckburg universe (or the related sources and reports) in every respect. So far, research has been carried out on many topics in the natural sciences and humanities. Furthermore, a city ​​map of Duckburg was created on the basis of the stories and presented in 2008.

The research is mainly limited to the Donald Duck stories by the American illustrator Carl Barks , which were translated into German by Erika Fuchs . Stories from other artists, on the other hand, are largely ignored. This restriction results in a self-contained area of ​​research that only a few Donaldists leave behind.

The organization awards the Professor-Püstele-Prize for the promotion of the donaldischen sciences. It was awarded to Susanne Luber at the 39th Congress on March 12, 2016 in Cologne.

structure

Organizational life largely takes place at the three annual events: the congress , the May race and the intermediate ceremony. These are usually planned and carried out by the local round tables . At the congress, the latest research results are presented in lectures and the dignitaries are elected and the next congress location determined, while the other ceremonies serve empirical Donaldism, be it in the form of a competition (May race) or an (intermediate) ceremony. On these occasions, situations from Duckburg are recreated as they were handed down by Barks and Fuchs, for example in a bridge building competition, a scout ceremony or the presentation of plays based on Duckburg.

The hymn of the organized Donaldists is the song of the "maudlin cowboy". It should be the only song composed by the character Donald Duck. At every event and at the get-togethers, the participants gladly intone it several times. Instead of the profane applause that is usual in other places , people shout out loud into the hall: clap, clap, clap.

The central organ is the non-commercial journal Der Donaldist , which appears irregularly a few times a year and primarily publishes new research results. In addition, there are more irregular special issues (detailed special topics or donaldic calendar).

The club calendars usually include the so-called "Donald Year", which runs from April 1st of one year to March 31st of the following year. This Donald year comes from the early days of the DONALD calendar, when it was mainly offered at the congresses and a calendar that has already expired by a quarter and will not last until the next congress was viewed as nonsensical by the creator of the time. With this trick, the non-commercial nature is underlined again at the same time, since outsiders can do little with such a calendar.

In addition to the DONALD, there is also the Nationella Ankistförbundet i Sverige (kvack) ( NAFS (k) ) in Sweden and the Dansk Donaldist Forening (RAP) ( DDF (R) ) in Denmark . In the USA there is also the Carl Barks Fan Club with similar goals.
