The DC Defenders are an American football team from Washington, DC.They are a member of the XFL, which was launched in 2020, and play their home games at Audi Field , the football stadium of the MLS team DC United . With 20,000 seats, the Audi Field is the smallest stadium in the XFL.

Along with New York City , Dallas , Houston , Los Angeles , Seattle , St. Louis and Tampa Bay , Washington, DC is one of the founding cities of the XFL.

On February 21, 2019, the team hired Pep Hamilton, who was last assistant coach for the Michigan Wolverines , as their first head coach . Hamilton is a graduate of Howard University and was XFL Comissioner Oliver Luck by Hamilton's work with Lucks, the son of former NFL - quarterback Andrew Luck , known.

On February 8, 2020, the Defenders won the first game in the new XFL with 31:19 against the Seattle Dragons. On February 15, 2020, the Defenders beat the New York Guardians 27-0, the first game to zero in the history of the newly formed division.

Defenders fans have taken up the tradition of putting "beer snakes" together from empty beer mugs. The snake constructed at the game on March 8th spanned several rows and even Commissioner Oliver Luck contributed with a mug.
