On May 7, 2019, it was announced that Winston Moss would become the team's head coach . On August 21, 2019, the team released its name, logo and identity as the Los Angeles Wildcats along with the rest of the XFL teams. An alternative logo was released on August 24th.

On February 8, 2020, the franchise played its first game, losing 17:37 to the Houston Roughnecks. Chad Kanoff scored the first touchdown in franchise history with a five- yard scramble .

On February 23, 2020, the Wildcats scored their first win in franchise history, defeating the DC Defenders 39-9.

Los Angeles is one of two cities that also had a team in the original XFL , the other is New York, New Jersey. Los Angeles Xtreme was the champion of the previous XFL in the league's only season in 2001.

The Wildcats are located in one of the densest sports markets in the United States and compete with two NFL teams ( Los Angeles Rams , Los Angeles Chargers ), two NHL teams ( Los Angeles Kings , Anaheim Ducks ), and two NBA teams ( Los Angeles Lakers , Los Angeles Clippers ), several NCAA Division I college basketball and college football teams, and in March and April the LA Galaxy and Los Angeles FC in the MLS and the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels in the MLB .
