The St. Louis BattleHawks are an American football team based out of St. Louis , Missouri . The team is a member of the XFL, which started in 2020, and plays its home games at The Dome at America's Center , the former home of the St. Louis Rams before they moved to Los Angeles .

history

St. Louis joined Dallas , Seattle , Houston , New York City , Los Angeles , Tampa Bay, and Washington, DC as the founding cities of the league.

On April 18, 2019, Jonathan Hayes, a former NFL tight end , was announced as the team's head coach .

The BattleHawks won their first game in history on February 9, 2020, 15: 9 against the Dallas Renegades.

The BattleHawks are the only XFL team that doesn't share its market with a current NFL franchise . St. Louis was the home of NFL football with the All-Stars in 1923 , the Gunners in 1934 , the Football Cardinals 1960 to 1987, and again with the Rams from 1995 to 2015 , who moved to Los Angeles in the 2016 season . There is significant negative sentiment against the NFL in St. Louis as both the Cardinals and Rams have relocated to new cities, pointing to a split between the team owners and the St. Louis city and county governments over the Provision of a new stadium and the unacceptable condition of the dome in the America's Center. With St. Louis being one of the youngest cities to lose an NFL team with facilities acceptable by XFL standards, the area was seen as a good choice to take advantage of a new football market.

Stadion

The dome in America's Center was originally built for the Rams and to complement the adjacent St. Louis Convention Center. After the Rams' departure, the Dome continued to host a host of other events, preventing the stadium from accepting a team in the former Alliance of American Football for the 2019 season . The XFL pays $ 800,000 in rent to use the dome (a flat fee of $ 300,000 plus $ 100,000 for each game) in order to collect all revenue from ticket sales. The St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission will retain concession and park revenues. For XFL games, the dome has a reduced capacity, similar to the previous use of the Alamodome by the San Antonio Commanders and that of Orlando Rage in the XFL's Citrus Bowl, bringing the stadium's capacity down to around 28,000. Along with CenturyLink Field, the Dome is one of two XFL venues in the downtown area. After two consecutive lower tier sell-outs, city officials began opening up some sections of the upper decks to accommodate more fans while maintaining the intimate atmosphere the league is aiming for.

The team uses Rams Park in Earth City as a training facility. The facility has been used by the Lou Fusz Soccer Club since the Rams left.

The league has also said that should St. Louis win a franchise for a Major League Soccer team (which has actually been granted and will begin in 2022), the XFL would be interested in hosting the BattleHawks at St. Louis MLS Stadium, with its new amenities, better lighting and higher capacity. Three XFL teams share the stadiums with MLS teams for the inaugural season.

Fans

The BattleHawks lead every other team in followers on Twitter and Instagram . The fan base has also used social media to harass fans of opposing teams. In the opening week, the St. Louis media market had the most television viewers.
