The Seattle Dragons are an American football team from Seattle . The team belongs to the XFL , which was founded in 2020, and plays its home games at CenturyLink Field , which is also used by the Seattle Seahawks from the NFL and the Seattle Sounders from the MLS .
history
Along with New York City , Dallas , Houston , Los Angeles , St. Louis , Tampa Bay and Washington, DC , Seattle is one of the founding cities of the XFL. Seven of the eight founding teams are in a city with at least one NFL team. Pete Carroll , the Seahawks' head coach , said he doesn't mind that the XFL plans to start a new team in Seattle and that Seattle will welcome the new league with open arms.
Former Seahawks quarterback Jim Zorn , who started as the first quarterback for the Seahawks, was announced as head coach on February 25, 2019. On June 22, 2019, the XFL Summer Showcase took place at Seattle Memorial Stadium , in which around 100 players came to practice training for the new team.
On June 27, the USPTO announced that XFL parent company Alpha Entertainment had registered trademarks for the names Seattle Dragons, Seattle Wild, Seattle Fury, Seattle Surge and Seattle Force. Seattle Dragons was the name that was finally revealed on August 21st. The team logo and kit were unveiled on December 3, 2019.
On February 8, 2020, the Seattle Dragons played their first game against the DC Defenders in Washington, DC, which they lost at 19:31.
