The type series DWK 360 C are three-axle diesel locomotives with mechanical power transmission and rod drive , which were designed for the middle shunting service in the performance class similar to the Wehrmacht locomotive WR 360 C 14 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn. They were built by Deutsche Werke in Kiel from 1940 and were the successor series to the DWK D350 .
The locomotives were in service until the 1980s. Four locomotives have been preserved at different locations.
development
After the experiences with the DWK D350 , its construction was changed in order to improve the running properties. The German Wehrmacht demanded a locomotive with an end driver's cab in order to transport heavy railway artillery with a driver's cab coupled to the driver's cab . 19 locomotives were built between 1940 and 1944.
Were delivered:
- twelve locomotives to the Reich Ministry of Aviation
- six locomotives for the Navy
- a locomotive to the Brandenburg State Transport Authority to operate on the Oderbruchbahn .
They are also known as the Wehrmacht WR 360 C 15 locomotive.
technology
Compared to the prototype locomotive DWK D350 , the series locomotives had a terminal cab and their own engines and gearboxes. Compared to the WR 360 C 14, you have better visibility over the smaller stem.
The machine system consisted of a six-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine DWK 6M 30 from DWK, which could originally be started with compressed air. The engine delivered its power via a multi-plate clutch to a mechanical four-speed gearbox, which was also controlled with compressed air. The gearbox had a secondary gearbox for the top speeds of 30 km / h and 60 km / h. The axles were driven via drive and coupling rods via the jackshaft located within the axle group. This arrangement avoided the spatial separation of the engine and transmission, increased the wheelbase and arranged the jackshaft within the axle group. These measures led to better running properties compared to the prototype locomotive.
commitment
DR V 36 050-053
After the end of the Second World War, five locomotives were in the territory of the Deutsche Reichsbahn . One locomotive came via a detour from Austria to the AW Dessau and became a spare part donor there, the others were added to the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1957 as V 36 050-053 . They served in various agencies until the late 1960s. The last locomotive was the V 36 053 , it was retired in 1969.
DB V 36 301, 311-315 and 317-318
Eight locomotives remained on the territory of the Deutsche Bundesbahn and were classified as V 36 301, 311–315 and 317–318 . The locomotives took on various tasks. The V 36 301 was used in front of the rail grinding train in the Hanover area.
These locomotives were classed as splinters, were eliminated in the mid-1950s and were sold to private railways .
WLE VL 0606 and 0607
The V 36 315 and 317 took over the Maxhütte in Sulzbach-Rosenberg . In 1959 these locomotives were passed on to the Westphalian State Railway and designated as VL 0606 and 0607 . During the main inspection, a weak point in the locomotives, which caused frequent bearing damage, was eliminated by means of an elastic motor mount. Their area of activity was from the Warstein and Soest stations in the shunting and freight train service. The problems with replacement parts made it difficult to repair the locomotives, which is why the VL 0607 was the first to be retired in 1967 . In 1970 and 1971 both locomotives were scrapped in Lippstadt .
Mindener Kreisbahnen
Between 1954 and 1960 the Mindener Kreisbahnen received the other six DB locomotives. Some of them received new engines and were prepared for one-man operation. The muffler in front of the driver's cab was moved under the engine hood and an exhaust pipe was pulled out to the side. This enabled three front windows to be built into the driver's cab.
With these locomotives, the Mindener Kreisbahnen were able to partially switch their operation from steam to diesel operation. They mastered the passenger train service as well as the freight train service. Particularly heavy trains, such as the ore trains on the route to Kleinenbremen , were driven with pre-tensioning vehicles. The service ended in Minden due to line closures and the abandonment of passenger traffic.
Preserved locomotives
Four locomotives in the series have been preserved;
- the former V36 311 is now in the Braunschweig locomotive park ,
- the former V36 314 is in the Rügen Oldtimer Museum ,
- a locomotive that remained in Austria was parked in 1982 and has been privately owned in Traun since 1985 ,
- the former V 36 316 is in the Dieringhausen Railway Museum .
