Dadarus Merah Putih
The Dadarus Merah Putih or Dadurus Merah Putih (DMP, German Red White Tornado ) was one of the pro-Indonesian militias that terrorized the population around the independence referendum during Operation Donner in 1999 in occupied East Timor . Their headquarters were in Ritabou ( Bobonaro district ), where their leader Natalino Monteiro comes from. José da Silva Tavares was the head of the DMP in the district capital Maliana . His father, João da Costa Tavares, was the head of all seven militias in the Bobonaro district.

On April 8, 1999, the DMP took part in a show of force in Maliana. For the first time the so-called Wanra marched in East Timor. Up until April 12, there were several attacks on independence supporters by the militia. There were torture and death of prisoners.
On June 29, 1999, members of the DMP attacked the UNAMET office in Lahomea . Several people were injured. On September 2, 1999, the two local UNAMET employees Ruben B. Soares and Domingos Pereira were murdered in Raifun by two Indonesian officers and the DMP. Of the ten people identified as perpetrators, only one was arrested and tried. The other nine had probably fled to West Timor . On August 27, Memo villagers were forced to hold a pro-autonomy rally by the DMP and Halilintar militia in the presence of the Indonesian police and military (TNI). When they refused, civilians Raul dos Santos , Felis Laku and Jaime were shot and 22 houses burned down.
On September 4, 1999, the day the decision for East Timor's independence was announced in the referendum, the DMP burned down hundreds of houses in Maliana and murdered locals.
With the support of Indonesia's armed forces, the DMP and the Halilintar carried out the massacre in the Maliana police station on September 8 with knives, machetes and swords. The regional militia chief João Tavares and the Indonesian lieutenant Sutrisno were in command of the militiamen . A total of 14 people were killed including, Julio Barros , a former administrator of the sub-district of Maliana and Domingos Gonçalves Pereira , the Chefe de Suco of Ritabou. The victim, José Barros Soares, was only twelve years old. The bodies of the victims were brought to Batugade and sunk there in the sea. Other sources report 47 deaths. Another 13 people who initially managed to escape from the station were killed near Maliana the next day. A total of 71 people were murdered in the Maliana sub-district between September 2 and 29. Apart from the church, the whole of Maliana was burned down by the militia.
Militia chief Natalino Monteiro was convicted in his absence in Dili on July 10, 2003, of crimes against humanity in connection with the massacre at the Maliana police station.
The DMP militia officer João Fernandes from Atudara was brought before the Special Panels for Serious Crimes (SPSC) in Dili for the murder of Domingos Gonçalves Pereira in the Maliana police station . Fernandes was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Manuel Gonsalves Leto Bere , commander of a DMP unit, received 15 years imprisonment on May 15, 2001 for the murder of João Gonsalves , a supporter of FALINTIL , on the banks of the Nunura River , near Maliana, in late September 1999. Leto Bere was Indonesian Reporting to Sergeant Manuel Lopez , a DMP commander in Suco Lahomea.
The DMP commander Victor Lopes was arrested by UNTAET in July 2001 . The reason was his involvement in the massacre at the Maliana police station.
Martinho Mau Buti, DMP commander, captured and tortured Almeida , a 26-year-old resident of Ritabou, along with other militiamen and soldiers on April 22, 1999. He is therefore wanted for crimes against humanity.
João Gomblo, António Metan and Marito were all DMP members. You are believed to have been involved in the massacre at the Maliana police station and other crimes. Alleged DMP militiamen Marcus, Luís Metan Frans, Agusto dos Santos Martins, João dos Santos, Julião, Paulus, Domingos, Adriano, Afonso, Ejebio de Jesus, Alberto, Batista and Inacio Metan are accused of intimidating villagers and intimidating houses in Ritabou, Holsa and to have set fire to Lahomea.
