Dadiwank ( Armenian Դադիվանք , also Խութավանք Khutavank or Chotawank "monastery on the hill") is a monastery of the Armenian Apostolic Church , which is de facto in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic . The monastery is located in a wooded area 1.5 kilometers north of the Tartar River in the Nagorno-Karabakh province of Shahumyan , just outside the border of the former Nagorno-Karabakh Oblast and about 50 kilometers as the crow flies northwest of Stepanakert . The church of this monastery was built in 1214.

Legend has it that St. Thaddäus , a Christian martyr, was buried within the walls of the monastery, which is said to have been founded at the end of the 1st century by one of the disciples of the apostle Judas Iscariot . The monastery was first mentioned in a document in the 9th century.

In 1994 the monastery was re- consecrated ; it currently functions as the monastery of the Diocese of Arzach of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

The complex consists of the main church Surb Astvatsatsin ( dedicated to the Blessed Mother ), a chapel and other outbuildings.
