Dagfin Werenskiold

Dagfin Werenskiold (born October 16, 1892 in Bærum , † June 29, 1977 there ) was a Norwegian sculptor and painter .

He was the son of Erik Werenskiold and brother of the geologist Werner Werenskiold . He learned to draw from his father. In 1911 he went on a study trip to Paris and in 1913 to Provence . Werenskiold stayed in France for further studies from 1920 to 1923 . He also toured Greenland and Italy .

Werenskiold made various reliefs, including the bronze doors of Oslo Cathedral in 1937 with scenes from the Sermon on the Mount . In 1958 he created the Relief Life in the Forest for St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota . He created the altarpiece of the Hornindal kirke (1930) in Hornindal in the province of Sogn og Fjordane and the Sandefjord kirke (1963) in Sandefjord in the province of Vestfold .

Among his works are the painting by Jørgen Tjønnstaul in the Nationalgalleriet in Oslo, a bust by Fridtjof Nansen and the Yggdrasilfrisen in Oslo City Hall . In 1939 he illustrated a school book by Nordahl Rolfsen and editions of Norwegian fairy tales.
