Dagmar Schäfer
Dagmar Schäfer (born May 23, 1968 in Adenau ) is a German sinologist .
Life
Dagmar Schäfer received her training at the University of Würzburg , where she received her doctorate in 1996 under Dieter Kuhn . In 2005 she completed her habilitation in Sinology. Schäfer deals with the history of science and technology . She has taught at Zhejiang University , People's Republic of China, Würzburg University, Tsinghua University in Taiwan and the University of Manchester . She has been director of the Artifacts, Action and Knowledge department at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science since 2013 .
In 1998 she received a prize from the Lower Franconian Memorial Year Foundation for Science for her dissertation . She won the 2012 Pfizer Award from the History of Science Society for her book The Crafting of the 10,000 Things . In 2014 she was elected to the Leopoldina . Schäfer was awarded a Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize for 2020 .
Schäfer is married and has three children.
