Daisy is a female given name .

Origin and meaning

Daisy is the common botanical name in the English language for all kinds of daisies , daisies and similar-looking daisy family (Asteraceaen). Etymologically, the name is derived from the Old English dægeseage , which means something like “day eye” (literally “day eye”, “sun eye”, actually “sun” or “pearl”). The name became common in the 19th century in the English-speaking world - especially in the late Victorian era - when plant and flower names were increasingly established for (female) first names. He is also a nickname for Margarete (see also Spanish Margarita ) and its diminutive form Peggy .

He became known in the German-speaking area through literary uses such as Daisy Miller or Daisy Duck , the cartoon character from the cartoon series Mickey Mouse .
