Women's ice hockey Bundesliga 2016/17
The 2016/17 season of the Austrian women's ice hockey leagues was held parallel to the Elite Women's Hockey League .

Participating teams
Eight teams from three countries competed in the first Bundesliga. The Sabers II competed in DEBL2. The defending champions of the Triglav / Olimpija syndicate no longer took part in the league. However, individual players were in action with the Southern Stars in the EWHL. As Junior Caps Flayers, the WE-V Flayers were part of a syndicate with the Highlanders.

The second team of KMH Budapest is thus champions of DEBL 2016/17. The game association Jr. Capitals Flyers Vienna / Neuberg Highlanders II also qualified as the best Austrian DEBL team for the final tournament of the state championship.
State Championship
The state championship of the 2016/17 season was decided in a tournament. The three Austrian teams of the Elite Women's Hockey League 2016/17 were selected as participants. The EHV Sabers Vienna , the DEC Salzburg Eagles and the Neuberg Highlanders were eligible to participate . In addition, the game association Junior Capitals Flyers / Highlanders II was the best-placed team in the DEBL play-offs.
The teams initially played in the knockout system for participation in the finals. The winners then competed in a game for the title of “Austrian State Ice Hockey Champion”. The other two teams also played for the bronze medal.

- Basic round: A simple round-trip round is played.
- Play Off: Will be played as a return leg. In the event of a tie, the goal difference decides. If this is the same, there is a 5-minute extension ("Sudden Victory Overtime") in which the team may only use three field players and one goalkeeper. If no goal is scored, the series winner will be determined in a penalty shootout according to IIHF rules.
- In the championship series, the best and second-placed teams from the regular season play.
- Third and fourth placed teams from the regular season play in the series for bronze.
