Women's ice hockey Bundesliga 2017/18

The 2017/18 season of the Austrian women's ice hockey leagues represents the second-highest league competition in Austrian women's ice hockey. Teams from Croatia and Hungary take part across countries - they can also become DEBL champions . For the Austrian state championship, an additional ranking is kept for the participating Austrian teams.

Participating teams

Nine teams from three countries competed in the first Bundesliga. All five Austrian teams from last season took part, as did the Croatian team from KHL Grič Zagreb . There were three teams from the Hungarian capital: the defending champions from KMH Budapest II, the team from UTE Marilyn Budapest moved to MAC Budapest , and the team from the Obuda Hockey Academy joined them .

  • Basic round: A simple round-trip round is played
  • Final tournament: The best-placed team in the basic round against fourth, and second against third. The winning teams play for 1st place, the losers for 3rd place.

The Obuda Hockey Academy thus won the DEBL title when it participated for the first time.

State Championship

The 2017/18 national championship was held for the first time in the best-of-five mode. The three best Austrian teams from the EWHL and the best Austrian team from DEBL were qualified as participants.

The two best Austrian EWHL teams contested the final in a best-of-five series, the third best Austrian EWHL team played a best-of-three series against the best Austrian team from DEBL for third place.

Participating teams

The following changes will be made to the participating teams in the preseason: HDK Maribor - since the 2014/15 season in DEBL or DEBL2 - no longer competes. The Wildcats Lustenau, who dare to make the leap from the Vorarlberg women's ice hockey league to the Bundesliga, are new participants. The Salzburg Eagles II and the Ice Cats Linz II form a game community in 2017/18. Thus, the season is contested with 5 Austrian teams.

mode

  • Basic round: One and a half rounds are played back and forth.
  • Play Off: Will be played as a return leg. In the event of a tie, the goal difference decides. If this is the same, there is a 5-minute extension ("Sudden Victory Overtime") in which the team may only use three field players and one goalkeeper. If no goal is scored, the series winner will be determined in a penalty shootout according to IIHF rules.
    • In the championship series, the best and second-placed teams from the regular season play.
    • Third and fourth placed teams from the regular season play in the series for bronze.

In the final, the DEC Dragons Klagenfurt prevailed with two wins against the Red Angels Innsbruck. The Wildcats Lustenau reached third place with two successes against the EHV Sabers Wien Juniors.
