Damien Abad

Damien Abad (born April 5, 1980 in Nîmes ) is a French politician ( Nouveau Center ) and has been a member of the European Parliament since the 2009 European elections .

Life

Damien Abad studied finance at the Institut d'études politiques de Bordeaux and worked as a research assistant on tax and financial issues for the liberal UDF group in the French National Assembly . After the dissolution of the UDF in 2007, he joined the Nouveau Center (NC), a small party formed from the right wing UDF that supported Nicolas Sarkozy's candidacy in the 2007 presidential election . In the French parliamentary elections in 2007 Abad scored 3.17% in his constituency in the Yvelines department , and in 2008 he was elected to the city council of Vauvert ( Gard ). In May of the same year he became chairman of the NC youth organization Jeunes Centristes .

In the 2009 European elections in France , Abad came second on the joint list of UMP , NC and LGM in the constituency of south-east France and won a seat in the European Parliament , where he became the youngest French MP. He joined the Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) and is a member of the Committee on Budgets . In 2010 he was also elected to the Regional Council of Rhône-Alpes . In 2012 he moved to the National Assembly after winning the direct mandate in the fifth constituency of the Ain department in the parliamentary elections .

Abad has arthrogryposis , a rare disease that causes joint stiffness.
