Arthur Leppmann

Arthur Silvius Leppmann (born December 31, 1854 in Raudten ; † May 11, 1921 in Berlin ) was a German doctor , forensic pathologist , psychiatrist and neurologist . At that time he was one of the best-known and most renowned judicial experts.

Life

The Leppmanns were originally a Jewish family of bakers in Peiskretscham, Upper Silesia . Arthur's father Heinrich Leppmann (1820–1899) already made it to the medical council and district doctor . Arthur himself attended the Evangelical Gymnasium Groß-Glogau from 1865 to 1873 . He studied medicine at the University of Breslau , University of Leipzig ( University Hospital ), University of Freiburg / B. ( University Hospital ). During his studies in 1877 he became a member of the Franconia Freiburg fraternity . A year before his doctorate in 1877, he became a trainee doctor , and in 1878 he was finally III. Doctor at the Provincial Insane Asylum Leubus in Silesia . In 1879 he moved to the Allerheiligen Hospital in Breslau and the psychiatric clinic there as a secondary doctor. In 1886 he settled in Breslau as a neurologist . In 1889 he got the position of first doctor at the Berlin-Moabit prison and built the first observation station for mentally ill convicts in Prussia. In 1895 he also received the post of district doctor . He retained both positions until his death in 1921 after a long heart condition.

Leppmann made a name for himself primarily as a forensic expert. In 1895 he was one of the founders of the Ärztliche Sachkundigen Zeitung , wrote handbooks on expert work and, together with Emanuel Roth, revised Isak Schlockov's handbooks on forensic medicine, medical and medical police. In 1890 he tested in Moab observation station for Paul Ehrlich , the methylene blue in pain on prisoners and set a positive effect in the treatment of migraine firmly.

Arthur Leppmann's brother is the psychiatrist, neurologist and coroner Friedrich Leppmann (1872–1952).
