Daniel Lewis Majerle (surname is pronounced Marlee ) (born September 9, 1965 in Traverse City , Michigan ) is a retired American professional basketball player and coach.
Athletic background and career
In his youth, Majerle played in Traverse City High School. He spent his studies at Central Michigan University (CMU), where he participated as part of a college selection team in the 1988 Olympic Games in men's basketball and won bronze with his team. Subsequently, also in 1988, he was drafted as the 14th pick in the NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns , where he matured into a pillar of the team over the course of the following seven seasons. This was made possible by his constant performance in the points average, his move to the basket and above all his impressive, often game-deciding 3-point throws.
On October 7, 1995 Majerle was given to the Cleveland Cavaliers together with Antonio Lang in exchange for John Williams . After the following season, which is more than a stopover, Majerle signed a contract as a free agent on August 22, 1996 with the Miami Heat , whose goal was to create a powerful team with Majerle as the cornerstone of the 3-point line Alonzo Mourning , PJ Brown , Jamal Mashburn , and Voshon Lenard . After successful years with the Miami Heat, Majerle signed a contract with the Phoenix Suns as a free agent on July 19, 2001 and thus returned to his long-term home team. There, after a farewell season, he ended his career after 14 professional years on April 17, 2002.
He got his nickname "Thunder Dan" at the beginning of his young career with the Phoenix Suns , due to his impressive thunderous "thunderous" dunking, before he developed more and more to a 3-point shooter through his style of play.
