Daniel Gerdes (born April 19, 1698 in Bremen , † February 11, 1765 in Groningen ) was a German Reformed theologian.

Life

At the suggestion of Friedrich Adolf Lampe and Theodor Hase (1682–1731) Gerdes began to study theology. In 1719 he went to Utrecht , made educational trips through Holland, Germany and Switzerland, was elected preacher in Wageningen in 1724 and then received his doctorate in Utrecht.

In 1726 Gerdes was appointed professor of theology at the University of Duisburg . In 1735 he went to Groningen in the same office .

The special merit of Daniel Gerdes lies in the research and presentation of the Reformation movement in Europe. Gerdes was u. a. Member of the Academy of Sciences in Berlin.

His daughter Anna Maria (1738–1801) married the Dutch theologian Ewald Hollebeek in 1758 .
