Daniel Gregory Mason

Daniel Gregory Mason (born November 20, 1873 in Brookline , Massachusetts , † December 4, 1953 in Greenwich , Connecticut ) was an American composer .

Lowell Mason's grandson studied at Harvard University with John Knowles Paine , in Boston with Percy Goetschius and George Whitefield Chadwick, and from 1913 with Vincent d'Indy in Paris . In 1931 Mason was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and in 1938 to the American Academy of Arts and Letters . Until 1942 he was professor of music at Columbia University in New York City .

Mason composed three symphonies , one piano and two string quartets , one violin and one clarinet sonata, piano and organ works and songs .
