Daniel Hartnack (born November 20, 1642 in Mulkenthin near Stargard in Pomerania , † 1708 in Bad Bramstedt in Wagrien ) was a German Protestant theologian , schoolmaster and writer .

Hartnack, born in Mulkentin about eight kilometers northeast of Stargard in Hinterpommern as the son of the village pastor, had studied philology and theology and was a high school professor in Frankfurt (Oder) and Erfurt , private teacher in Dresden , rector of the Latin schools in Bremen , Altona and Schleswig and finally pastor in Bramstedt. The school in Altona was opened in 1683; Hartnack was the first rector there. Again and again arguments with other theologians had brought him out of his position. However, there were influential professional colleagues who stood up for him, including Esaias Pufendorf, brother of the constitutional and international lawyer Samuel Pufendorf . He probably owed this advocacy to his strong personality, educational talent, and administrative skills as a headmaster. In addition to his theological pamphlets, some of which he published under pseudonyms such as Maphanäsus , Maphanatus , Marphanäus and Friedrich Coelius , he wrote a textbook on the history of Livonia .
