Daniel Hess (art historian)

Daniel Hess (* 1963 in Richterswil , Canton of Zurich ) is a Swiss art historian and has been General Director of the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg since July 1, 2019 .

Life

Daniel Hess studied art history, church history and literary criticism at the University of Zurich from 1983 to 1988 , where he graduated with a licentiate. During his doctorate at the University of Stuttgart he was supported from 1989 to 1992 with scholarships from the DAAD and the Baden-Württemberg State Graduate Fund. He then worked for the Corpus Vitrearum Germany , before becoming head of the collections painting until 1800 and glass painting at the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg in 1998 . Daniel Hess was appointed to the newly established Chair of Museum Research and Cultural History at the University of Erlangen in June 2019 . On July 1, 2019, he succeeded G. Ulrich Großmann as General Director of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum.
