Life path

Daniel Jones was born in Southend-on-Sea , England , in 1973 , but his family immigrated to Australia before his tenth birthday . The Jones family moved to Brisbane , where Daniel grew up as the youngest of three sons. Music was already an important part of Daniel's life in his childhood, which also applies to his two brothers, Oliver and Jonathan Lee Jones, who also have musical talent. His mother often called him Caniel after his name was misspelled in an article in the school newspaper about a goal he had scored. Daniel's most common nicknames were Dan, Waggin and Jonesy.

Jones left Shailer Park State High School after the 10th year to pursue a musical career. He then fell ill with reflux esophagitis , an inflammatory disease of the esophagus .

On April 30, 2000, he met his future wife Kathleen de Leon at the Logie Awards, who at the time had been a member of the successful Australian teenage group Hi-5 . After more than three years together, Kathleen organized a 70s party on the occasion of Daniel's 30th birthday, where he publicly confessed his love to her in front of hundreds of people and proposed marriage to her in the GPO Bar in Brisbane .

The two were married on October 9, 2005 at Avica Weddings and Resort in Gold Coast , Queensland . In honor of his bride and this celebration, Jones wrote the song Love Is Enough . The couple have a daughter who was born in July 2006.

Music career

Career start

At the age of just 18, he was with his brother and some of his friends in a band called Red Edge , which lacked a front man. Daniel Jones then placed an advertisement in the local Brisban music newspaper Time Off , in which the band was looking for a suitable singer. One of those who responded to this ad was Darren Hayes , who was ultimately chosen. After a while, however, Hayes got tired of singing other people's songs and was determined to leave Red Edge . At that time, Daniel Jones was already considering making his own music, and so he made the difficult decision of leaving the band with Darren Hayes. This marked the beginning of the band Savage Garden .

Darren Hayes, the other half of the duo, did the vocal part on all titles, while Jones was mainly responsible for the instrumental background. Nevertheless, his voice can be heard in some demo songs, such as Aubergine Girl , and in the countdown of the song To the Moon and Back . Hayes and Jones only wrote and played their own music and had their biggest international hits in 1998 with Truly Madly Deeply and 2000 with I Knew I Loved You . From the beginning they traveled the world promoting their first album and performing their songs. The travel burden and other problems began to burden Daniel more and more and he felt pressured by fans and the press, which made him increasingly uncomfortable. So Darren decided to take on the lion's share of the public duties that had to do with promoting the band. In return, Daniel rehearsed with the background musicians who accompanied Savage Garden on their tour and took care of the musical arrangements. Nevertheless, the duo finally split up in 2001.

After Savage Garden

In 2001 Daniel started supporting an Australian band called Aneiki , which consisted of musicians Jennifer Waite and Grant Wallis. It was the first band to sign up for the newly founded music label Meridien Musik . Daniel knew Jennifer as one of the backing singers who accompanied Savage Garden on the Future of Earthly Delites tour , the first tour for the album Savage Garden. Daniel helped produce the band's first album, Words in Place of Objects , and co-wrote four of the songs on the album: Dearest , She Says , Saving Grace , Feel This Fool, and Sugarlust .

In 2002 Daniel worked with another Australian duo called Bachelor Girl . Here he co-wrote one of the songs called Falling for the band's second album, Dysfunctional . In 2004 Daniel supported the Australian pop-rock musician Julie Strickland and the Australian music act The Wish (with Peter Freebairn and Bill Kio) on their respective debut albums. Since 2005 he has been working with other Australian singers, such as Tori Horgan (for their debut album) and Paul Black. It turns out that Jones' greatest interest is in discovering young new talents and marketing them through his self-established Meridien music label.

In late 2005 Jones produced a series of EPs for the young label Pavilion Musik , which is part of Quiksilver . He recorded pieces with Sean Sennett, The Eight Color, Moonjuice and Josh Boots.

In May 2006 it was announced that Daniel had acquired the legendary recording complex at 301 Castlereagh Street in Sydney . This recording studio belonged in its long history to the well-known EMI group and was supposed to house the new Level 7 Studios as well as the production company Meridien Musik .

Today Daniel Jones continues to work on his own record label and lives in Sydney , Australia .
